Spirit of Glacier Bay – What’s Up?
So if you haven’t already heard, the 207-foot Spirit of Glacier Bay, owned and operated by Cruise West, found itself is a rather odd position. At approximately 7:12 a.m. July 7, the ship and it’s passengers found themselves grounded on a sandbar, presumptuously at or nearing low tide. The hull of the ship was not damaged, no oil leaked from the ship, and most importantly, no passengers were injured.
Once the tide came back in, the ship re-floated on it’s own, and with guidance from a tug, navigated to Juneau on its own power.
The ship is currently in Juneau, undergoing examination and any necessary repairs. The next sailing has been canceled.
