Lonesome George Lonely No More
The Galapagos National Park announced that Lonesome George, the giant Galapagos Tortoise thought to be the last of his kind, and likely in his 70’s, might soon be a father.
Since 1993, Lonesome George has been accompanied by another tortoise. The companion recent laid three eggs, which are now being cared for in an artificial incubator. It will take around 120 days before the eggs hatch.
Park officials have stated that this event has taken more than 36 years of failed efforts.
