American Cruise Lines brand new ship, Independence, recently took its first underway trials in Maryland’s Wicomico River. The brand new ship is currently three months ahead of schedule.

The Independence will sail on 7-14 night cruises beginning on June 12, 2010 with 102 passengers on the East Coast. The ship is different from other American Cruise Lines ships, including a wider beam and active wing stabilizers. The wider beam will allow for larger staterooms, public spaces and private balconies.
