2011 Alaska Small Ship Options
Is Alaska on your bucket list?
If you are looking at 2011 to be your year to visit Alaska, and you are looking at a small ship. You need to know what is going on.
Cruise West, the largest and one of my very favorite cruise lines for Alaska has closed their doors to restructure their company, and will not be sailing in 2011. They had four ships with 60% of the cabins available in Alaska each year.
This very much limits the small ship options in Alaska. What is available is top experiences with Lindblad/National Geographic, American Safari and InnerSeaDiscoveries. Each has it’s own niche and will for sure fill up very very early. So if interested start thinking seriously for I believe by the end of the year all small ship cabins for Alaska will be booked up.
For those who wish a little more luxury in their Alaska sailing, this year we are offering SilverSeas and Regent in Alaska. These are gorgeous ships, less expedition and more luxury Great early booking discounts, and with a few hundred passengers it is miles above the thousands of passengers on the big ships.
Look over the options below and give us a call toll-free at 1-888-815-5428.
Lindblad Expeditions / National Geographic
Lindblad Expeditions is an expedition travel company that offers voyages in Alaska and beyond. The company works in alliance with the National Geographic Society to inspire travelers to explore and care about the planet. As pioneers of global exploration, the organizations work in tandem to produce innovative marine expedition programs and to promote conservation and sustainable tourism around the world.
- Exploring Alaska’s Coastal Wilderness
Where can you wake to the cry of a soaring eagle, watch tons of ice thunder from the face of a glacier, walk in a spruce forest, and observe lunge-feeding whales, while cruising in complete comfort aboard a nimble expedition ship.
- Alaska, British Columbia & San Juan Islands
These beginning/end-season sailings offer 12-days of exploration. Start or end in Seattle.
American Safari Cruises
Since 1996, American Safari Cruises has been delivering upscale, expedition-style cruising aboard deluxe motor yachts, revealing in-depth Alaska to sophisticated travelers. Imagine off-the-beaten-track, up-close-and-personal eco-tourism combined with the pampering of a luxury cruise. Imagine an encounter with a bear or humpback whale in the morning, followed by a perfectly chilled martini and fresh oysters at cocktail hour. And while travelers on the big ships are listening to yet another medley from “Cats,” you’re taking advantage of Alaska’s 20 hours of daylight by kayaking after dinner in bald eagle territory.
- Discoverers’ Glacier Country
In Southeast Alaska, these yachts meander through the largest national forest in the United States – home to grizzly bears, black bears, mountain goats, bald eagles and wolves. On your way to view Alaska’s massive glaciers, you’ll enter some of the world’s deepest fjords to hike and kayak while other vessels’ guests stay shipside. In the still of the evening, watch bears ambling along wild shorelines. Everywhere in the swirling currents below, the world’s largest mammals, the great whales, forage in bountiful waters along the sheltered coastline. You’ll meet Alaska and its wildlife at eye level for a vacation of a lifetime!
- The Famed Inside Passage
These yachts cruise the full length of the West Coast of North America’s Inside Passage without the open ocean, but with shores ever-so-tight to the sides of your yacht for most of the 900 nautical miles between Seattle and Juneau. Embrace exhilarating closeness to snow-capped mountains, wildlife and birds far too numerous to keep count, waterfalls, tree-lined narrow passageways and surprises at just about every “gunkholing” turn. Choose May or September – either is an excellent time for cruising along British Columbia’s coast and Alaska’s Inside Passage. At these times of the year the foliage is vivid, there are fewer boats and people, and bears and other animals are likely foraging along the shoreline.
