“One of the most comfortable and accommodating ships in Alaska”
One of my favorite small ship cruise operators, American Cruise Line, who I myself have sailed numerous times on their east coast itineraries, are bringing their 100-passenger American Spirit to Alaska, debuting in June of 2012.
In August 2011, I sailed the American Spirit on its Chesapeake Bay itinerary. My daughter worked for a summer on the American Spirit when it was sailing American Cruise LIne’s Maine Coast & Harbors itinerary. The American Spirit will be a wonderful addition to our list of small ship offerings for Alaska.
Built in 2005, the American Spirit offers oversized staterooms, spacious public areas and multitude of modern-day amenities that make it one of the most comfortable and accommodating ship in Alaska. Onboard amenities include an elevator to all decks (necessary for hadicapped guests), numerous glass-enclosed lounges, a library and an observation deck exercise area.
As mentioned, the staterooms onboard American Spirit are some of the largest in Alaska. The majority of cabins offer private balconies and all staterooms have extra-large opening picture windows to maximize each passenger’s personal view of the Alaskan scenery; towering glaciers, verdant forests, floating ice castles and islands and waters teeming with wildlife.
The American Spirit is specially designed to navigate Alaska’s narrow inland waterways, while the intimate atmosphere onboard is perfect for onboard camaraderie as guests often find themselves amongst others who seek enriching travels and share their passion for exploration, adventure and discovery. Expert naturalist guides and local experts will accommpany guests, enriching the entire experience.
Beginning in June of 2012, American Cruise Lines will offer several different seven- and 11-night Alaskan itineraries, including round trip cruises departing from Juneau, Alaska, and one-way cruises between Juneau and Seattle, Washington. Offering a unique pampered adventure to experience Alaska, American Cruise Lines passengers will experience breathtaking views of the Alaskan wild in the premier vessel available, while having up close and intimate access to wildlife, inside passages and glaciers in the comfort of the American Spirit launch or for the more adventure-inclined passengers, by kayak.
