Silver Galapagos (former Galapagos Explorer II). The hull has already been painted the same dark blue as Silver Explorer, the company’s other expedition ship.

Silversea Cruises announced its recently obtained second expedition ship, the Galapagos Explorer II, has been renamed Silver Galapagos. The all-suite, 100-guest ship will undergoes a major refurbishment in September 2013. Silver Galapagos will begin sailing the Galapagos Islands in late 2013. Silversea said the Silver Galapagos will be the only luxury expedition ship exploring the Galápagos archipelago, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The 2013 itineraries, which go on sale in mid-November, will sail round-trip from Baltra Island on Saturdays:

  • Western Galapagos: Will explore the western, southern, and eastern Galapagos islands, including Santiago, Bartolomé, Isabela, Fernandina, Floreana, San Cristóbal, and Santa Cruz.
  • Eastern Galapagos: Will explore the northeast, central, and southeast Galapagos islands of Santa Cruz, Genovesa, Seymour Norte, San Cristóbal, Española, and Plazas Sur.

These itineraries offer adventurous travelers the life-enriching chance to discover a wild, pristine paradise that has long been regarded as a natural laboratory of evolution. On complimentary expeditions ashore guided by an experienced expedition team (certified by the Galápagos National Park Service), Silversea’s guests may experience up-close encounters with an abundance of wildlife that includes sun-basking land iguanas, giant tortoises, blue- and red-footed boobies, colorful marine iguanas, sea lions, penguins and Darwin’s famous finches.

The Silver Galapagos will offer similar luxuries as Silver Explorer, Silversea’s other expedition ship, including feature butler service, complimentary beverages, wines and spirits served throughout the ship, stocked in-suite beverage cabinet, and all gratuities.

  1. The all-suite ship – currently named Galapagos Explorer II – will accommodate 100 guests and has already received a coat of dark blue paint that perfectly matches her expedition sister ship. The bulk of her refurbishments will occur in September of 2013 at which point she will also take her new name and then begin operating voyages to the UNESCO World Heritage SIte.

    1. Yes, we are really excited about this new option being available in the Galapagos. The new dark blue paint job matches her luxurious sister ship the Silver Explorer. Not all details are out yet, but if she follows her sister ship, who sails Antarctica, Africa, Central and South America amoung other destinations, she will be the hight of luxury in combination of exploration of the Galapagos Islands with the top naturalists available. The Galapagos Explorer II presently has a good reputation, I can’t for this new launch by Silver Seas. Reservations will open soon on the new product. Watch for updates on our Blog.
