The ship was built in 2003 by Majestic America Line. It sailed Alaska’s Inside Passage and the Pacific Northwest from 2003 to 2008 before the company closed up shop. The ship was then docked under the ownership of the U.S. Maritime Administration.
The U.S.-flagged American Empress will serve as the largest overnight riverboat west of the Mississippi River. It measures 360 feet with five decks and accommodates 223 guests in seven stateroom categories.
