Travel + Leisure Magazine has announced its 2012 World’s Best Awards for Families, and Lindblad Expeditions was once again named the #1 small-ship cruise line. This is the fourth consecutive year that Lindblad Expeditions has earned the top slot, an honor it has held since the inception of the award category in 2009. The awards are based on data collected in Travel + Leisure’s reader’s survey.
Flip Nicklin, whale expert, will share his knowledge and stories from a life spent researching and watching whales on an upcoming Safari Endeavour Alaska sailing.
Flip first worked with Whales in Maui in 1979. With his father, Chuck, he was part of an Imax Movie crew filming “Nomads of the Deep.” He returned in 1980 to help Jim Darling determine the sex of singing Humpbacks (male). His first National Geographic Magazine story on Humpbacks was in 1982. He has published 20 National Geographic stories, three about work with Humpbacks and two about Killer Whales.

Lindblad Expeditions is set to launch a new culinary program associated with a new Columbia River itinerary in 2012.
The new onboard dining program features a menu dominated by local and sustainable foods in addition to a selection of wines and craft beers that have gained the region international acclaim. This past Sunday July 24, 2011, I attended the premiere of the National Geographic Documentary “Life In A Day”.
The film is shot by hundreds of people from around the world on July 24, 2010. People from all walks of life and destination are captured living their normal everyday life on this specific day.
80,000 submissions from 192 countries were sent in hoping to be included in the 90 minute film. The subjects are varied, sad, happy, emotional, touching, silly, artistic, all creative and different rolled by the crew into a full day, morning noon and night of life on July 24, 2010.

Lindblad Expeditions released a new Baja Mexico itinerary called Baja California Odyssey: San Ignacio Lagoon and the Sea of Cortez, a photo expedition that explores the Sea of Cortez, one of the best places for observing marine mammals in the world. This sails Jan. 11, 2012 from La Paz, Mexico for 11-days/10-nights aboard the 62-passenger National Geographic Sea Bird.
Joining Lindblad’s expedition team on this special sailing will be National Geographic photographer Susan Seubert, a recipient of Life Magazine’s Alfred Eisenstaedt Award, editorial photographer and photojournalist, along with two Lindblad-National Geographic-certified photo instructors. The 2011 Alaska cruise season is underway. Below is what’s happening with some of the cruise lines this season.
On April 26th, Lindblad’s first ship, the National Geographic Sea Bird, sailed from Seattle, WA, exploring the San Juan Islands, along the coast of British Columbia, Canada, through the Inside Passage to Misty Fiords, Frederick Sound and Chatham Strait, Sitka, Glacier Bay National Park, Point Adolphus & Chichagof Island, on its way to its final destination, Juneau, AK.
